This issue occurs because your NOOK came preloaded with an Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) folder which prevents the ADE program from recognising your device and authorising it with the same Adobe ID.
To resolve the issue please follow these steps:
* Power on your NOOK and connect it to your computer.
* Open "My Computer" (or Finder on MAC).
* Click on the NOOK drive
* Find the file ".adobe-digital-editions" and copy it to your desktop. Then delete the file on your NOOK drive
* Safely eject and unplug the Nook from the computer
* Close Adobe Digital Editions on your computer and restart it
* Connect your NOOK to your computer again
* Adobe Digital Editions should display the Nook icon. Click on the settings icon near the NOOK icon and click "Authorize"
* If not, return to the Nook drive in "My Computer" (or Finder on Mac)
* Find the file "Digital Editions" and delete it
* Close Adobe Digital Editions on your computer and restart it
* Adobe Digital Editions should display the Nook icon. Click on the settings icon near the NOOK icon and click "Authorize"
* Finish authorisation and redownload your ebooks and you should now be able to transfer and open your ebooks on your NOOK
