So you have downloaded your ebook to Thorium Reader and used your reading key and the ebook opens without issue. You transfer your ebook to your e-reader device, but when you try to open the ebook on the e-reader you are asked for your reading key / LCP Passphrase and you either receive an error like "Unable to open the book. Please enter your LCP code to open the book.", or the screen just refreshes and you are asked for the LCP Passphrase again.
This can be caused if your e-reader is using an older LCP Profile (like 1.0) when we are using the newer LCP Profile 2.9.
To resolve the issue please update your e-reader to ensure it is using the lastest firmware version. This should mean it updates to the newest LCP Profle and your reading key / LCP Passphrase will be accepted and the ebook will open on your e-reader.
As this commonly effects PocketBook Reader devices, we will cover each model specifically.
The following PocketBook Reader devices have all had firmware updates since the newer LCP Profile went live in January 2024, so if you update the firmware it should be compatible with our lcpl files.
| Basic Lux 4 | Era | Era Color | InkPad 3 |
| InkPad 3 Pro | InkPad 4 | InkPad Color | InkPad Color 3 |
| InkPad Lite | InkPad One | InkPad X | Touch HD 3 |
| Touch Lux 5 | Verse | Verse Lite | Verse Pro |
| Verse Pro Color |
The following PocketBook Reader devices have not had a firmware update since the newer LCP Profile went live in January 2024, so unfortunately it is unlikely they are compatible with our lcpl files. If possible please use Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to transfer the ebooks to your device instead.
- InkPad Color 2
- Basic Lux 3
- Touch Lux 4
Any PocketBook Reader device not listed here we would assume to not be compatible, unless it is a newer product, in which case it should automatically be compatible.
If you have a non-PocketBook Reader device that is compatible with Readium LCP and you are receiving the error please also try a firmware update.
If you have no available firmware updates, or updating does not resolve the issue, please complete our support form to submit a ticket to our customer support. If you are receiving an error message please take a screenshot and send it to us. Please also include the make and model of your e-reader device and the firmware version currently installed. We can then investigate further.
