If you haven't yet installed Thorium Reader please follow these steps on Installing Thorium Reader on your computer. Once that is complete you are ready to download your purchase.
In order to download eBooks in either the PDF or the ePub formats, please follow these steps:
Begin by using your computer browser to log in to your eBooks.com account at https://www.ebooks.com/account/login.
In your account section select "My eBooks/My Bookshelf", then depending on the view you have selected for your bookshelf you need to either click on the cover of the ebook, or click the "Read now" or "Read" button of the ebook you want to download
On the next screen instead of clicking the green "Read Online" button, click the "Download to Windows or Mac" link under the heading "Other Ways to Read"
If you have already installed Thorium Reader you can ignore step 1. If not, you must download and install Thorium Reader prior to downloading your eBook. Once done you can continue.
Scroll down to "(2) Then download your ebook", then click the button to download in ePub or PDF format (depending on which format is available for your ebook)
Your browser may open a dialog box asking if you wish to save or open the file. Please choose to save the file in an easily accessible place (like your Downloads folder, or your Desktop). If you do not receive this option, navigate to your downloads folder to find the file.
If your ebook has DRM applied as a requirement from the publisher, you will have downloaded a .lcpl file. If your ebook is DRM-free, you will have downloaded a .pdf or .epub file instead (depending on which format your chose to download).
You can now open the file in Thorium Reader to read your ebook. Depending on your computer's file associations you should be able to simply double click the file to open it in Thorium Reader. If the file will not open automatically in Thorium Reader please do not worry. If you open the Thorium Reader software, in the top right corner there will be an "Import publication" button.
If you click this button, then browse to where you saved your file, then select it and click "Open" it will open the ebook. Alternatively you can click and drag your saved file on to the open Thorium Reader window to open the file.
Once the file has opened in Thorium Reader, if your ebook has DRM applied you will be asked to enter what Thorium Reader calls your LCP Passphrase.
This is your eBooks.com Reading Key. If you return to your browser you will see your reading key displayed.
Copy it and paste it into the Passphrase box in Thorium Reader and then click "Open".
The Reading Key will be applied on this computer (so you will not be asked to enter it again for any future downloads from eBooks.com), and the ebook will open.
You will now be able to read your ebook in Thorium Reader. If you are unfamiliar with the reader please see their handy user guide.
If you have an e-reader device that is compatible with Readium LCP / Thorium and want to transfer your ebook to your e-reader, please see our guide for transferring an ebook from Thorium Reader to an e-reader device.
If you are having technical difficulties at any point please use our troubleshooter, or search the Reading Devices section of Help Centre. And of course you can always contact our support team, who will be happy to help.
