Sometimes when a customer purchases an ebook the product page will display a lovely cover image with beautiful artwork. But then when you download the ebook the thumbnail image shown in your bookshelf will be a very simplified cover image, or just the title page of the book.

Ebook reading software (including Adobe Digital Editions and our Ebook Reader app) do not download and display a separate cover image file. They simply display the very first page from the ebook as the cover image. If the publisher has not included a cover image, or if they have included a simplified cover image, then this is what will be displayed.

Although this can be disappointing, it is a conscious decision made by the publisher based on a number of factors:

1. To keep the file size of the ebook as small as possible. The print cover image can drastically increase the ebook's file size which can then impact download time, storage space and also performance and reading experience (depending on the device / software you are using to read the ebook)
2. Ease of production. It can be difficult to get the resolution and size right
3. The publisher couldn't secure the necessary rights to include the cover image in the ebook. The rights for the cover image (or other images in the book) may be held by someone other than the author.
   It's also often easiest/safest simply to exclude images across the board, as opposed to having to investigate and track the rights of each image in each book.

In these instances I am afraid we cannot contact the publisher to request they update the ebook to include the print cover as this is is not actually an error (they have distributed the exact same ebook file to all of their ebook vendors). It is simply their policy regarding ebook production and they will not change it.
