Adobe Digital Editions, often called ADE, is one of the reading apps that eBooks.com customers use to download and read protected EPUB and PDF ebooks.
The way Adobe Digital Editions handles sign-in is changing. Adobe ID sign-in is being replaced by a new sign-in system operated by ByteBooks, a Wipro company.
For many customers, nothing will happen immediately. If Adobe Digital Editions is already installed and authorised on your device, you should be able to continue reading as usual.
You are most likely to notice the change when you install Adobe Digital Editions on a new device, or if Adobe Digital Editions asks you to sign in again.
What is changing?
Until now, Adobe Digital Editions has used an Adobe ID to authorise your computer, phone, or tablet.
After the change, Adobe Digital Editions will use a ByteBooks account instead.
This is a change to the sign-in system. It does not mean that your eBooks.com purchases are being cancelled, removed, or replaced.
What is not changing?
Your eBooks.com account is not changing.
Your previous eBooks.com purchases are still yours for life.
Adobe Digital Editions can still be used for this type of download.
Your ebook licences will remain linked to the email address you previously used for your Adobe ID.
Do I need to do anything now?
Probably not.
If Adobe Digital Editions is already installed and working on your device, and you are able to open and read your ebooks, you do not need to take immediate action.
You will need to act later when:
- you install Adobe Digital Editions on a new device;
- you are asked to authorise Adobe Digital Editions again; or
- you see a sign-in error when trying to use your Adobe ID.
What should I do if Adobe Digital Editions asks me to sign in?
If Adobe Digital Editions asks you to sign in after the change, you will need to create a ByteBooks account.
The most important step is this:
Use the same email address that you previously used for your Adobe ID.
This helps ByteBooks link your existing ebook licences to your new ByteBooks account.
How to create a ByteBooks account
When prompted, follow the ByteBooks account creation process.
In general, the steps are:
- Go to the ByteBooks transition page.
- Create a new ByteBooks account.
- Use the same email address you previously used with Adobe Digital Editions.
- Verify your email address using the one-time code sent to you.
- Return to Adobe Digital Editions.
- Sign in using your new ByteBooks email address and password.
One confusing detail: Adobe Digital Editions may still show labels such as “Adobe ID” on the sign-in screen. They haven't updated the wording on that sign-in screen yet. Even if the screen still says Adobe ID, you should enter your new ByteBooks email address and password.
Will I lose my ebooks?
No. This sign-in change will not remove your existing eBooks.com purchases.
Your ebook licences are linked to the email address used for Adobe Digital Editions. That is why it is important to create your ByteBooks account using the same email address.
In some cases, you may need to download a title again from your eBooks.com library before reading it on a new or re-authorised device.
What if I no longer have access to my old Adobe ID email address?
If you no longer have access to the email address you used for Adobe Digital Editions, please contact support. Don't create a new account.
This will help avoid unnecessary disruption and give the support team the best chance of helping you link your existing ebook licences correctly.
Do I need to install a new version of Adobe Digital Editions?
No, not yet.
The current information we have says there is no immediate change required to the Adobe Digital Editions app itself. The immediate change is to the sign-in method.
ByteBooks has indicated that replacement ByteBooks Digital Editions apps may follow later, but the timing has not yet been confirmed.
Alternatives to Adobe Digital Editions?
If you do not want to create a ByteBooks account, you have other options for reading your eBooks.com ebooks:
- Use Thorium Reader on Windows, Mac and Linux instead.
- Many e-reader devices are compatible with our Readium LCP - check with the manufacturer.
- Our Online Reader works in any web browser (requires an internet connection).
Where can I get help?

- If you are asked to sign in again, create a ByteBooks account using the same email address you previously used for your Adobe ID.
- Your eBooks.com purchases are not being removed or cancelled.
